The story of a young girl named Sofia begins in Luhansk Oblast, a region where, until 2014, her life was full of familiar things: family, faith, and spiritual values that shaped her worldview from childhood. She grew up in a religious family, where God was not just a concept, but a part of everyday life. However, the events that unfolded with the outbreak of the war radically changed not only her external circumstances, but also her inner state.
Due to military actions and restrictions that arose in the occupied territories, the opportunity to openly attend church became unavailable, and along with this, her personal spiritual practice gradually began to fade. A lot of pain, misunderstanding, and unanswered questions appeared in her heart, which over time grew into an insult to God. What had previously been a support became a source of internal conflict.
Later, her father moved to Odessa, and after a while the whole family reunited there, starting a new stage of life in another city. Outwardly, everything looked like a clean slate, but in the spiritual dimension she remained distant from God, not feeling the inner connection that had once been natural.
Despite this, her family did not stop praying for her. A special place in this story is occupied by her brother, who not only believed, but purposefully and sincerely asked God for her salvation. His prayers were filled with love, concern, and a deep desire that his sister would one day personally make the decision to follow God and make a covenant with Him.
In 2025, a tragedy occurred that became a turning point in her life: her brother died in the war in the Donetsk region. This loss was a deep shock, a pain that is difficult to put into words. At the same time, it was then that she realized that for the last six months of his life he had prayed especially fervently for her, putting all his faith and hope into these prayers.
This realization became for her a point of internal breaking and at the same time the beginning of a new search. Experiencing the pain of loss, she gradually opened her heart to God, trying not just to understand, but to feel His presence and meaning in what was happening.
She began to systematically study the Bible with her pastor, taking Bible lessons, delving deeper into spiritual truths that had previously remained distant or incomprehensible to her. This process was not quick or easy, but it helped her rethink her own life, pain, and loss.
An important stage on this path was her participation in the evangelical program in Novye Obikhody, held at the “Nash Dim” sanatorium, where she had the opportunity to focus on spiritual issues, distance herself from daily worries, and finally become established in her decision.
In October 2025, she was baptized, making a personal covenant with the Lord. This decision was a deeply conscious step she took after going through pain, loss, and rethinking her life.
Today, her story is a testament to how even in the darkest of circumstances, God continues to work, touching the heart of man. It is a reminder that no sincere prayer goes unanswered, even if the answer doesn’t come in the way we expect.
